The Halloween Festival, established in 2020, is more than just a seasonal celebration — it’s a community-driven effort to raise awareness and support for MLK Park in Highland Park, MI, located within the city of Detroit.
Built in the early 1970s, MLK Park was inspired by the innovative designs of architect Richard Dattner, a pioneer of the “adventure park” concept. Adventure parks are spaces that encourage creativity, exploration, and physical play, featuring elements like rope climbing structures, obstacle courses, bouldering areas, rock climbing walls, target-oriented activities, and even zip-lines. MLK Park was modeled after Dattner’s famed Adventure Playground in Central Park, NYC, and includes unique features such as on-site pyramids that are a rare and treasured part of the community.
Today, we are seeking support for much-needed improvements:
Your contribution today will help preserve a piece of local history and keep the spirit of adventure alive for future generations.
